That's right, the Enterprise run by the ladies. AND HOW.

I am loving this meme people are doing where casts of characters are being re-imagined chromatically:

+ [info]handyhunter started it here,
+ [personal profile] bossymarmalade did some X-Men recasting
+ and [info]liviapenn kept going with Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four.

I got sort of inspired to play off this and re-imagined the cast of Star Trek XI as women.

Let's start off with Zoë as Kirk. (And she's still also a linguistic badass, because I can't imagine anyone else as Uhura. Don't ask me how it works, take my word for it, it's grrrreat.)


Queen Latifah as Pike.


Oprah as Admiral Barnett.


Brook Antoinette Mahealani as Sulu.


Wanda Sykes as McCoy.


Kathy Najimy as Scotty.


Judith Scott as Spock.


Nichelle Nichols as Spock Prime, just for extra confusion.


Frida Kahlo as Amanda.


Indira Gandhi as Sarek.


Margaret Cho as Nero.


Jasmine Guy as George Kirk.


Tiaré Scanda as Winona Kirk.


And, while I'm at it, maybe I'll do a few DC people, too.

Jeanine Garofalo as Clark Kent.


Lenora Crichlow as Jimmy Olsen.


Rigoberta Menchu as Perry White.


Tracie Thoms as Robin.


Nisha Ganatra as Nightwing.


Lucy Liu as Harley. (I aaaalmost wanted to make her Kirk. I could totally see her sitting in the chair.)


Mizuo Peck as Ivy.


Rosario Dawson as Catwoman. The way she works a catsuit, y'all, nnngh.


I feel like Gina Torres as Wonder Woman is EXCEEDINGLY obvious.


Also, I wanted to cast Elaine Miles, Vienna Teng and Ashley Judd but came up blank, but I'm including them anyway because they are ♥.







Couldn't seem to come up with a good Batman or Joker candidates. Ideas?

I could see that considering her performance in Mulholland Drive. The woman who played Trinity also popped into my head, but that's potentially because of all the black latex she wore in the Matrix series.

Wow, that picture really does make me believe her as the Joker. Actually, I could see it anyway -- she's got that vibe about her, she could totally pull it off. She's one of those actresses that I love in everything of hers I've watched. HELEEEEEENA. ♥

Oh, I love the chromatic reimaginings; I remember a really good one for the Stargate verse last year. And hey, special love for Gina Torres as Woner Woman and Nichelle Nichols as Spock Prime! Excellent choices all, though. I think Angela Bassett or Michelle Rodriguez could do credit to Batman, and Jasmine Guy might be able to pull off Joker.

I think all the focus on casting younger actors for everything is kind of ridiculous, personally. And, ugh, now I'm picturing her jumping from rooftop to rooftop in Gotham being all badass and amazing and it's making me REALLY HAPPY.

And something about Jeanine's expression in that picture (and her glaaaaasses ♥) just screamed Clark Kent to me. Plus I love the idea of her snarking at villains, hee.

Not at all. I actually think I know exactly what you mean. Something about the expression on her face does that to me, too.

Somewhere I saw people talking about a challenge comm where we could play with all our cast lists, which I think would be so amazing.

So many of your choices are absloute yes -- McCoy! Scotty! SPOCK! -- and I really like the idea of Lucy Liu as Kirk, just because identical twins on the bridge might get confusing, especially with one of them trying to get into the other's pants. But most of all, essential to everything in the world, I hope Sulu brings that tiara to his post every day.

I am so enamored with the idea of Judith Scott as Spock. She would be SO BADASS. Ugh. And yeah, I think for the sake of Uhura/Kirk, Lucy Liu would make a better Kirk. *g* Plus I think Lucy would be a great Captain, anyway; she has that air about her.

And you are so right about the tiara!

This is a casting in the grand tradition of "same actor different character/waste not want not casting/all women in Star Trek are played by Majel Barrett". And it makes me HAPPY.

I was going to do someone else as Kirk, and then I was like, welllll, but Uhura's already there and awesome! (Although it does make Kirk/Uhura 'shipping sort of doppelcesty, not that I've ever had a problem with that). Plus, I like the idea of a captain who doesn't need a translator and can engage in negotiations with a level of subtlety and skill you'd never get with an automated translator.

Ahahahaha, that would really make Star Trek a toootally different kind of movie. There were a few moments where I think Kirk could have used a little nudge with the frying pan.
